Measuring the carbon and water footprints of the cities as territories
Proposing footprint reduction responses and establishing reduction goals
Implementing demonstrative pilot projects to reduce the footprints
Involving key sectors and the general population in the measurement and reduction of the footprints
Creating capacities for measuring and monitoring the footprints within the municipal governments
SASA is a pioneer in Latin America in the measurement and management of the Carbon Footprint and Water Footprint of cities, institutions, events and products, having been part of the Footprint of Cities Project team as an executing agency for the evaluation of fourteen Latin American cities: La Paz, Lima, Quito, Guayaquil, Fortaleza, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Tarija, Cali, Loja, Recife, Santa Cruz de Galápagos, Cuenca, Cochabamba and El Alto.
The main results are:
Development Bank of Latin America – CAF and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) as funders, Latin American Future Foundation (FFLA) as facilitator and Servicios Ambientales S.A. (SASA) as executor. In coordination with the municipal governments and with technical assistance from Carbonfeel and the Water Footprint Network (WFN).
